Negotiate your medical bill

Administrative errors:

Health care billing typically relies on people to input the correct codes to properly bill for procedures performed by your provider. Because of this, the billing process is fraught with human error. Simply put, one of the billers may have put in the wrong code, which resulted in an erroneous charge to you.  You may not be able to spot these errors on your own, but be aware of the following types of potential errors when reviewing your bill:

1Keystroke error: A coder hits the wrong key on a keyboard, which leads to inflated charges.  Unfortunately, this is difficult to detect without professional help.

2Canceled work: Your doctor orders a test but then cancels it, but it wasn’t removed from the system due to human error or a glitch in the system.

3Unperformed services: You are billed for a service, treatment or medication that was never ordered and never performed.  A detailed review of your bill might reveal such a problem.
